How to properly care for your cat once you pass away

Throughout your cats life, you have cared for them and brought them everything they need in order for their survival. However, what happends if you die first? Who will take care of them?

Here are some tips on how to plan ahead and make sure your cat ends up in safe and capable hands.

  • Find at least two responsible people who can take care of your furry friend temporarily. This may be a close friend, a partner or even a family member. These people will be assigned as your emergency contacts if something were to happen to you.

  • Create an alert card with their names and contact details. Put this card in your wallet or purse and keep it on you at all times.

  • Work with an attorney/solicitor to place your pets within your will. This will give a formal agreement on who can take your pets after you pass.

  • It is ideal to keep pets with a very close member you talk to on a regular basis. If you assign a friend whom you occasionally talk to, priorities may change and they may not be interested in taking your cat.
